The tomato story
One tomato.
Follow it from a farm abroad to a hotel kitchen in Doha. Start with a hundred.

01 · The farm
90
Too ripe to ship.
The farmer picks a hundred. Ten are too ripe for the journey. No big deal.

02 · The road
80
Pressed in the crate.
Crates shift and press on the long road. Ten bruise on the way. No big deal.

03 · The supplier
70
One warm night.
The truck runs warm one night. Ten more go soft by morning.

04 · The kitchen
60
Ordered on a guess.
The kitchen has to guess how busy Tuesday will be. It orders extra, to be safe. Ten end up in the bin.

05 · The plate
60
Sixty get eaten. Forty never do.
Nobody did anything wrong. Everyone lost a little.
Scale that to the whole world: 40% of all food grown, never eaten. Five times the emissions of every plane on Earth. While 673 million people face hunger.

Most kitchens cannot tell you how much they throw away.
Not because they don’t care. Because nobody can see it. That is where Wady starts.

An illustration, not a measurement. The 40% is the global figure (WWF, Driven to Waste, 2021). Emissions: UNEP and WRAP. Hunger: FAO SOFI 2025.
